I have thoroughly enjoyed chairing The Manchester Young Carers Forum; we have accomplished so much recently such as producing a campaign booklet. We have also attended many events such as the Manchester Youth Councils event on Hate Crime. However, the thing that I have ultimately enjoyed is being part of the Young Carers Partnership. This group allows the Young Carers Forum to really make a difference and allows us to communicate with different people who are tied to young carers, this means we are creating a network ensuring that no resources for young carers are wasted or underused.
Over the last few months I have seen the Young Carers Forum grow and the young carers in it become more confident. This is one of the best things about the Young Carers Forum and I cannot wait to see these young carers become even more confident and proud in what they are doing. I’m currently working on a song called “Be Bothered”. It relates to the ‘be bothered campaign’ that happened previously but; most importantly spreading a message to young carers and for those who have a caring role for their parents/guardians or a sibling. It’s for anyone who is looking after someone expressing how YCF can help them through the process of being a young carer.
What I’ve enjoyed the most is: the meetings that we have every weekend and being involved in this campaign and broadcasting it to the young carers out there. We are committed in doing this and making sure that this ‘small structure’ that we have begins to build and prosper. This is just the beginning! We’ve got a lot to do, but it’s worth it! Together, we can establish a support network for young carers from Manchester. YCF Manchester has allowed me to continue important work started with Family Action. It's also allowed me to develop my music by allowing me to write and preform a rap what holds a message in what I believe in and what I support. YCF Manchester is allowing the possibility of Young Carers to unite and support each other and making the standard of living for every young carer easier.
I think my favourite thing I've done so far is building this wonderful website and attending the MYC event on hate crime. As a designer, and I dare say a good one, I put some time in designing the logo of YCF Manchester, the Be Bothered poster and creating the website you're on now. Of course, it isn't finished yet, it's not the créme de la créme of website aesthetics, but I'll be putting more time and effort in rejuvenating it so it looks superb.
In addition, the MYC event on hate crime was fun, engaging in activities and discussion and speaking to other students and people about hate crime and then some. Good to get out and about too. There's nothing much to say now. Apart from thanking you in reading this. So thank you. If you haven't already, join YCF Manchester, and hopefully, you'll get to meet me. I'm nobody special. Honest. Cheerio! |
